Firedog prepares to speak at Digital Shoreditch for second year running
The technology industry in the UK has shown refreshing vital signs in the recent dark paralysis of the UK’s economy. And at the geographical centre of this industry lies what has been coined Tech City (aka The Silicon Roundabout). Digital Shoreditch is a respected and growing annual conference which brings the movers and shakers of the tech industry under one roof for a week in May.
Firedog will again be making a presentation after delivering a rip-roaring speech in 2012. In last year’s presentation we tackled the concept of Digital Branding and how it applied to digital start-ups and online businesses. This year we’re going to have a little more fun. Our subject this time? “The reduced work of the interwebz 1988 – 2013”
The Firedog talk will be a complete 25 year navel gaze at the history of website design and creativity. We’re planning to deliver all this in less than 15 minutes, supported with fancy graphics, motion and audio. The subject matter we’ve chosen is designed to offer a different agenda to the other talks going on, which naturally will be focusing on new technologies. We thought it would be cool to offer a retrospective look at key moments in time. A refreshing breather and, in short – a digital history lesson.
As clients and agencies, we are always concerned with the evolution of new technologies and we thought it would be a fun and perhaps therapeutic to pause, smell the virtual coffee and take a little look back at how far we have come. Much like one’s own career, there’s nothing like looking at your past performance to help you steel yourself for the future.
We’ve opened up the task to the team and we’re looking to do some kind of on stage tag team kind of delivery. We’ve even gone as far as opening up a Google document with overriding themes that we are looking to address. So we promise to give the whole affair some proper firedog loving.
Those among you who remember long forgotten brands such as Lycos, Netscape and Alta Vista will be in for a treat as we take you through a cross section of “terrible design habits”, “restricted developments” and the best of the “time wasting” scenarios the World Wide Web has had to offer over the years.
really old digital farts in the studio and over 10 years of working in the digital sector, Firedog is well placed to offer you an entertaining cross section of the highest and lowest moments of our favourite all time media channel.
With some
So, join us while we discuss some of the more memorable moments of the past 30 years, from design and functionality developments to those that are bound to induce a cringe worthy trip down memory lane.
It’s a great excuse to break out of your daily routine and it’s easy to sneak out of the office, being all business related anyway – so come have a look at where the past and future of digital collides.
So the date again : Wed 22nd May – “Future Brands” day. See you there!
